Target Audience


• Examine the current research for an accurate understanding of resident burnout, including contributing factors, symptom identification, implications on personal practice, and patient outcomes.

• Review the current research on preventative, personal, and organizational treatment strategies for resident burnout.

• Define CREATION Health principles in the context of the physician experience.

• Discuss the overlay of CREATION Health principles, ACGME Section 6 standards, and research-supported work/life conditions needed for optimal resident wellbeing.

• Participate in experiential activities, recommended by the literature, that positively affect wellbeing and prevent burnout.

• Garner Program Director feedback on resident observations; collect feedback/impressions/ideas for what would enhance the resident resiliency programming.


At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
  1. Examine the current research for an accurate understanding of burnout: contributing factors, symptom identification, implications on personal practice and patient outcomes, and preventative, personal and organizational treatment strategies.
  2. Demonstrate faculty modeling of a commitment to the wellbeing of residents, faculty and members of the health team.
  3. Exhibit the skills associated with joy of curiosity, problem-solving, intellectual rigor, active listening and compassion, all skills associated with resiliency.
