Overview

This module is not a lecture on pain management but the opioid epidemic and opioid prescribing.  Dr. Theisen-Toupal discusses the misuse and misuse disorder of opioids dating back to the 1800's.



Objectives

At the end of this course, participants should be able to:
  1. Review the reasoning for the CDC's 2016 Guidelines of Opioid Prescribing.
  2. Review harm mitigation strategies, such as opioid overdose education and naloxone distribution.
  3. Discuss treatment of opioid withdrawal.
  4. Review strategies for inpatient management of opioid use disorder.
